Los Angeles Times The Taste was August 29-31 at Paramount Pictures Studios presented by Citi (www.latimes.com/thetaste or #tastela). I wanted to write about the event, yet I decided to just share some photos and some kind words on some of the many brands that I had the pleasure of tasting. I know I missed a lot but there was too much to taste. I did attend Opening Night, Field To Fork, Dinner With A Twist and Sunday Brunch yet most of this is from the last event Flavors Of L.A. hosted by Jonathan Gold and Michael Cimarusti.
Some of my many highlights include, Stella Artois with Daniel Joly, owner and executive chef of Mirabelle at Beaver Creek, CO. Tasty food from Little Sister, Manhattan Beach, CA. Sitting in top of the line new Buick cars, while listening to the staff, very well informed girls who own Buicks. Don Julio had the Airstream Speakeasy, Matt from Zaca Mesa had many wines from the vineyard. Kara turned me on to a bourbon I had not had before J.R. Ewing Bourbon, it’s a private reserve 4 year old bourbon from Kentucky, I had to taste it more than once, so good. Twice The Vice (www.twicethevice.com) had some amazing chocolates with liquor inside, they blend alcohol into the ganache center of each piece all there products are gluten free. Christiaan Rollich from A.O.C. and Lucques made cocktails with Basil Hayden and he makes his own ingredients all made from scratch by his side Merry Tungka Co-Host of The Gary Garver Show. Bolla Rosé Sparkling Wine and Placido Chianti from Italy. Sukkah Hill Spirits had both the Etrog Liqueur and the Besamim Aromatic Spice Liqueur. Matura had both the 2012 Marlborough Pinot Noir and 2013 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Hornitos Tequila set up there own little cantina, they featured the new Hornitos Black and Hornitos Lime Shot. Whispering Angel poured their Cotes de Provence Rose from magnums. The whole crew from Apartment A was there making cocktails with La Niña del Mescal Espadin. Jim Beam had their Jim Beam Maple, Fire and Honey, it went well with Mexikosher right next door. One of my favorites was the Mezcal Mule a cocktail made by Forrest Cokely (www.adrinkwithforrest.blogspot.com) featuring Mina Real Silver Mezcal, Barritts Bermuda Stone Ginger Beer and Boy Drinks World Serrano Cocktail Spice (indiegogo www.spicemybeer.com). Kirin Ichiban had a couple frozen draft machines so cool. Many amazing brands and the passionate owners, distillers, brewers… there to tell you all about them also Southern Wine and Spirits A Team present with lot’s of information on their brands.
