2014 Hedges Family Estate Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Review
9/10 – Savory yet very beautiful on the palate, a great buy!
Deep purple color, yet not opaque. A sense of finesse in the color which suggests liveliness on the palate. The mouth feel is angular, with grace and precision. The 2011 vintage produced a savory character in the wines, like that of fennel, salt, tar and steel. Highly integrated tannins, dusty in a sense, alongside protective acidity guarding against premature oxidation. This wine, like other Red Mountain AVA wines before, will develop beautifully for up to 25 or more years with proper cellaring. While a fine wine now with food, should develop well for drinking on its own as it slowly evolves.
9/10 – Oak and bright fruit notes, fruit forward and complex
Wine Enthusiast 90 Points
Made using a specific blend of our most iconic vineyards, the 2014 Premier Old Vine Zinfandel has been aged 20 months in French Oak. The resulting wine is bright and highly aromatic with notes of blackberry, cocoa powder and cola nut. Loaded with flavors of strawberry, chocolate, anise and smoked meat, the layered complexity of this wine is complimented by its excellent weight and balance, making it a signature Old Vine Zinfandel. Fresh and refined, the plush tannins are flawlessly integrated to add a silky, regal quality to the velvety finish. A perfect wine for every day or an elegant pairing to any meal. Enjoy now through 2019.
2012 Carol Shelton Karma Reserve wine is a Sonoma County red blend. 70% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah, 6% Alicante Bouschet, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Carignane and 2% Viognier. They produced 1,513 cases of this vintage.
The back label says,
It’s Karma: if you do good things, something good will happen. Our Karma Reserve red blend is a complex wine that is both bold and fruity, brimming with dark fruit flavors and deep toasted oak. We pass along this good Karma to you… now pay it forward!
Originally this wine was created in 2008 to celebrate the wineries 10th anniversary. The exotic compexity and food friendliness of a white Rone-style bland makes this a “red drinkers white” a complex alternative to the more one dimensional white varietal wines like Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.
Coquille, is pronounced “ko-keel” it is French for shellfish or scallop.
Winemaker’s tasting notes, exotic nose of spicy pears and white peaches, almond paste/marzipan, a touch of honeysuckle perfume. In the mouth it is chrisply dry yet creamy and round and full-bodied, with nice almond paste on crisp-yet-juicy pear fruit.
Fermentation Characteristics, 100% barrel fermented, then stirred every 10 days for 9 months
Cellar Storage Aging, nine months in older French oak barrels
This is a 1 Pint , 6 Fluid Qunces Alc. 6.39% by Vol.

On The Back Of Each Bottle It Says:
Each one of you earned the title “Marine” and has a lifetime membership in this organization that is respected, admired, and feared. The title has no rank, no age, and it applies whether you are active duty, in the reserves, or retired. Everyone who has earned the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is a marine for life and there is no greater civic calling.
For 239 years, Marines have protected our great nation with skill and military distinction. The Hellhounds of MALS-39 have supported every major operation since our inception during the Vietnam War. Currently, we have Hellhounds involved in operations in Afghanistan, embarked aboard the USS MAKIN ISLANS, and in Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Individually, we are Maintenance and Supply professionals, IYAOYAS, and Warrior Monks, but collectively we accomplish the mission as the Hellhound TEAM and we will be prepared to do so whenever our nation calls upon us.

Plan B Wine Cellars, has a 2011 Mourvendre from Happy Canyon in Santa Barbara, California. The 2011 Mourvedre works well on it’s own or with just about anything, it’s my new go to wine. If you ask the winery they will say that the cool and wet growing season led to them reducing the crop load a bit and opening up the vine canopy to encourage light and air circulation around the fruit. The result is a wine that is a bit more fruit driven with plum and spice with the familiar smoky earthiness that they are known for. You could save this bottle but temptations will be there as it drinks well today. If you go to Santa Barbara, California wine trail, Plan B is a winery in an industrial part of of town yet they do everything right so make sure you stop by. Janis, wife and co-owner of Plan B is enjoyable and husband, Marlow knows his craft. You will be taken back with all the wine barrels yet realize after you start tasting that they need to supply the demand. They have an elegant wine bar that is both comfortable and educational. Marlow said that they chose this over retirement, Plan B. Marlow and Janis are taking Plan B and creating amazing wines, a must have is the Plan B 2011 Mourvedre.

2014 Best Gift the one everyone truly wants is, World Peace. Merry Christmas, Christmas time is different for everyone around the world. People have different beliefs, traditions, weather… Traveling around this time of year I realize that everyone want’s the same thing, quality time with the people around them. Once all the stress of getting somewhere, or finding the perfect gift, cooking, cleaning… is done and you have a second to sit down and look around you notice that relationships with people near and far is what really brings the most joy out of everyone.
This year as you attend all the traditional events that happen each year, try to be in the moment and not thinking about what did or did not get done. Church, work, kids school, friends stopping by… it is time to give everyone an extra minute and realize that the people around you make the holiday special.
It is a time to enjoy everything life has to offer, everyone loves to cook around the holidays so enjoy what others have spent time and money preparing. Time and effort were spent on decorations and lights, take time to drive through the neighborhood and take it all in.
Treat everyone how you would like to be treated, it is a time of year where people tend to be a bit nicer to strangers. Peace on earth will only happen if we continue this all year long. If we look at issues that come up and try to work together to come up with solutions. We all need to give each other more complements, gifts are nice yet telling someone how great they look, what a great job their doing or letting them know that you value their friendship goes a long way.
Shop, eat, drink, party… and keep the conversations, actions positive as we all want world peace and staying positive and being good to everyone around you is a great start.
Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season and Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward Men!
