Recreational Equipment, INC. or REI Garage Sale, it is held inside most stores yet the fact that most people attending the event have extreme outdoor experiences with the unknown is what makes this event the ultimate in retail sales events worldwide.
It’s a first-come-first-serve policy so like me you may want to camp out. You have to be an REI member another thing that adds stress to this event, most of your piers know the store just as well as you do. If you’re not a member still come, you will find some great deals, buy your membership online prior to the garage sale or pay for a membership at checkout.
It is like the great outdoors so make sure you know why your there have a few key items you are looking for in mind it will be overwhelming. Have fun, everyone looks intense yet this is fun for everyone the REI staff will tell you it is one of the best days to work as it is such a rush. FORTUNE magazine has a list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, it started in 1998 and each year REI makes the list, these employees are happy people. If they don’t have what you are looking for and another store is close by, you should go to the other store or come back later in the day, I think they bring more stuff out as the sale goes on.
How much is killer gear marked down, most of the stuff I have purchased in the past was marked down 50%, if it shows a little wear or slight damage it could be more, I purchased a North Face down jacket last year and it was 80% off original price. Make sure it is what you want, all sales are final so no returns or buyers remorse.
I would dress like you are going hiking, skiing, surfing… what ever it is you are into, you want to have socks on if your looking for footwear or layers if your trying on jackets. Please write in and let the readers know what deals you found this time, if you have tips or tricks to share or just write a comment in support of the cause. Remember REI donates each year millions of dollars to support conservation efforts nationwide, cleaning up beaches, making trails, restoring local habitats and so much more. REI began as a group of 23 mountain climbing buddies and is now the nation’s largest consumer cooperative.
