Hearing a lot about Hermosa Tequila, I purchased a bottle of the Hermosa Ultra Premium Reposado Tequila and decided to add a review. I am a huge fan of reposado so I knew I would find something I liked about it. After the first sip it could be my new favorite, and I am saying that as I have not had all the reposado tequila’s available. I do know that they aged it more than two months yet under a year- the exact time it goes into the bottle is more about taste then time. The law is reposado tequila must be aged at least 2 months/60 days yet may not be aged over a year (as it would then fall into the añejo category). My own personal preference is a reposado that is aged long enough to enjoy with a full meal or an appetizer like chips and salsa, yet something that is drinkable on it’s own. Many times I want a shot of repo just on it’s own, and the Hermosa reposado brand is perfect, very well balanced lots of spice and fresh agave taste yet has all the qualities pulled from the barrel aging that make reposados so popular. This reposado is light in taste, yet once it is in your mouth there are many different flavors that come through, vanilla, oak, orange and citrus while the fresh agave taste is still present. This is at the top of my favorites in the reposado category and for under $50 retail it is well worth every drop, extremely smooth, 10/10.

Anders’ Handcrafted Vodka is distilled in small batches using a state of the art still. The source used for this vodka is sweet corn from the Olathe region of Colorado. Farmers here use snowmelt to irrigate. The corn kernels are smaller than the kernel of regular corn and have a concentrated flavor. It is analogous to the size of wine grapes to table grapes. The cost is much higher, but the quality of the corn is exceptional. Harvesting of the corn is done without pesticides and the corn is naturally Gluten Free. This corn is usually hand picked rather than machine harvested because of the soft nature of the corn.
The water used in irrigation, distilling and to cut the distillate begins as snowmelt and for the processing and cutting is then purified. While many distilleries use purified water, few begin with anything as pristine as ours.
The filtration process is another big difference between this vodka and others. They filter the vodka once and coarsely, they make it this way to leave more of the oils and to have a more flavorful vodka. This creates a weightier vodka.
The corn is brought in whole kernels from the farms and milled on site. This is important because pre-milled grains can become oxidized and lose much of the flavor. It is fermented right after milling sent straight to the fermenters to again guard against oxidation. The fermented liquid is then batch distilled. Unlike continuous distillation this leaves more of the original character. It is distilled correctly one time, and the heads and tails are cut. We cut 30% of the distillate to ensure only the heart of the distillate remains.
The label features mountains a depiction of the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak in the Colorado Rockies, which is a backdrop to the distillery.
ROCA PATRÓN SILVER, this tequila really did surprise me, I did a taste test against a handful of other silver tequila brands including the regular PATRÓN SILVER and ROCA PATRÓN came out on top not just with me but with two friends that were doing the blind tasting with me.
So here we have it, ROCA PATRÓN is a handcrafted 100% de agave tequila. After doing a bit of research I found out that this version of PATRÓN uses the finest weber blue agave that this company has available. Their finest agave is all used on the ROCA brand. They slow roast their Weber Blue Agave and then crush it with a two ton tahona stone wheel, the original/traditional way to crush agave. The juice is then fermented and distilled with the agave fibers. All this adds to a very complex taste with earthy tones and a long smooth finish. I highly recommend the ROCA PATRÓN SILVER, another sign is when it’s the first empty bottle on the table. They use a copper pot still made just for them by Bavarian Holstein Stills from Germany. They wanted to make whiskies and brandies, and a few specialty spirits, so they sought out one of the finest small batch stills in the world. The custom still is handcrafted out of copper, and hand-hammered to create more surface area to react with our spirits vapors. Since they specialize in whiskey which has a lot of flavor to it, copper was an important element to the design, as it reacts with unpleasant tasting compounds, allowing the better flavor to shine through.
