National Wine Day May 25th

National Wine Day, is definitely a holiday worth celebrating. Get behind this holiday, head over to your local wine shop and purchase some wine you love and a bottle of something new, different something you might have read about or been reading about. We all get into a routine of buying the same wine, I like to celebrate National Wine Day by expanding my horizons, treating myself to something a bit more something worth opening on this special holiday. My something new is;
2011 EDICT. Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, CA – Napa Valley – Napa Valley, An inviting nose of Raspberries and Black Current that continues on the palate. Located in Coombsville, the Collinetta vineyard offers an elegant texture with lots of dense ripe red fruits. The acidity reinforces and balances the structure which entails a mouth watering finish that lingers in the end of the mouth long after the wine is gone. Fine hints of coconut and vanilla discretely reveal the 100% French oak aging. Together, powerful dense fruit, bight forward acidity and balanced oak integration birth a cohesive ensemble showing off Coombsville AVA at its finest – making a wine that will grow effortlessly for years to come.

More ideas on how to celebrate National Wine Day, it’s a great time to purchase some new glasses, a wine refrigerator or some accessories.

Wine Glasses and Stemware, head over to Crate&Barrel or shop online, I have always been a fan of their selection. Also you can purchase one glass, yes you will break a glass and can order one more and not have to purchase a whole new set.

Wine Refrigerator, Wine Cooler Direct has both great products and great prices, visit their site to look at the top sellers.

Wine Accessories, I always head over to FRONTGATE, they have wine accessories that are well built, fun and functional.

Wine Magazine, I am a fan of continued education, if nothing else get a subscription to Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator or Food & Wine Magazine.

Note: Do not get National Wine Day (May 25th) confused with National Drink Wine Day (February 18th). National Wine Day is all about drinking and enjoying wine, National Drink Wine Day is about educating people on the health benefits of drinking wine. Things like moderate drinkers have lower risks for liver disease, type two diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and some cancers. Wine has also been known to reduce “bad” cholesterol, or LDL, and increase “good” cholesterol, known as HDL, a glass of wine has just 100 calories, and its fat-free and cholesterol free…

Tasting Couch Podcast Show with hosts Forrest Cokely and Will Elger

Tasting Couch Podcast Show with hosts Forest Cokely & Will Elger talk Wine, Beer, Spirits & Food

Tasting Couch is more than day drinking or an excuse to open a bottle or wine or high proof whiskey before noon. It’s taking time out of our busy days to sample top products in the food & beverage industry, while giving reviews, talking to the brand owners and educating consumers.

Tasting Couch hosts Forrest Cokely and Will Elger talk spirits, wine, beer, mixers, food and so much more. They interview the creators of brands as they join them on the tasting couch. Dive into a craft bourbon or a wine sent to them from a new winery, each and every day is a different brand. The tasting couch podcast started after years of consulting for many different brands. Brands that would send products to review, give feedback/suggestions or want us to create seasonal cocktails. We would sit down with a brand or with the brand owner talking about their brand and each and every time we wished we could have recorded the session, and share it with consumers who love these brands and want to know more about them.

CRAFT BEER HELLHOUNDS ALE MALS-39 REVIEW

HELLHOUNDS ALE MALS-39

239TH Marine Corps Birthday 2014

This is a 1 Pint , 6 Fluid Qunces Alc. 6.39% by Vol.
Brewed & Bottled By Mother Earth Brew Co. Vista, CA

On The Back Of Each Bottle It Says:

Each one of you earned the title “Marine” and has a lifetime membership in this organization that is respected, admired, and feared. The title has no rank, no age, and it applies whether you are active duty, in the reserves, or retired. Everyone who has earned the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is a marine for life and there is no greater civic calling.

For 239 years, Marines have protected our great nation with skill and military distinction. The Hellhounds of MALS-39 have supported every major operation since our inception during the Vietnam War. Currently, we have Hellhounds involved in operations in Afghanistan, embarked aboard the USS MAKIN ISLANS, and in Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Individually, we are Maintenance and Supply professionals, IYAOYAS, and Warrior Monks, but collectively we accomplish the mission as the Hellhound TEAM and we will be prepared to do so whenever our nation calls upon us.

Happy Birthday Marines and Semper Fi!

LtCol R. W. Sherwood
Commanding Officer, MALS-39

New York City Empty

New York City, New York, a blizzard leaves the city empty. Causing such a frenzy shoppers are buying more than bread, milk and toilet paper. Since Hurricane Sandy, this is the most extreme shopping rush for staple products. Everything from tequila to bagels and lox are flying off the shelves. People are thinking ahead, if we lose electricity, what will I want this week, what will I want for the Super Bowl. Consumers also seem concerned about keeping the lights on and staying warm. Duraflame logs, firewood and propane are good things to have on hand. Stores are sold out of eggs, bread, milk and other staple items as delivery trucks are not on the roads. What to do, make sure you are warm and have water and food. Then kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet that you are experiencing. This is what it is like to be out at sea fishing, time to think. It’s been a long time since NYC has had a bit of silence, hopefully the power goes out and you can light a candle, pour a glass of wine and relax with a book or two.

West Coast Cigar & Spirits Tasting Newport Beach, California

What do Belly Dancers have to do with Cigars?

“Cigar and Spirits” you can say one or the other and it’s an event I would like to be at, both together it’s a guaranteed success. The 4th Annual West Coast Cigar & Spirits Tasting, The Ultimate Lifestyle Event was held at the Newport Beach Hyatt presented by Cigar & Spirits Magazine. Cigars were presented as you entered in an outdoor tented area with live music, when you went inside there were Spirits, Food and more entertainment.

The advertising said, “Come and sample some of the world’s greatest spirits and cigars and to take home hundreds of dollars worth of premium cigar samples”. Tickets were $120, yet to sample the world’s greatest spirits and take home… is a deal. Paid events tend to attract true connoisseurs this one had, great camaraderie, from consumers and suppliers- you knew everyone wanted to be there. You were given a postcard when you arrived and as you visited with each of the cigar companies they would punch their logo (15 cigar logos on the card), and give you a cigar or two or three, a cutter, matches… The system is smart and organized, as juggling tasting spirits, food, entertainment, and cigars at the same time needs. Garo Cigars, Gurkha Cigars, Diamond Crown Cigars, Falto Cigars, Psyko Seven Cigars, Drew Estate, Rocky Patel… and more cigar companies, then you had Hangar 24 Craft Beer, Cognac, Moonshine, Bourbon, Nolet’s Gin, Tatratea, BuzzBar (alcohol-infused ice cream for adults), Tequila Uno, Abreojos Tequila, Comisario Tequila (shown in photo) and soo much more to eat and drink.

The following day I went through, the bag that was given to me when I arrived and which I used to put things in as they were given to me. I emptied it out (shown in photo) as I went through it, I remembered the passion and generosity of each company that participated in the event. This event gets better and better every year, I am sure the majority of the people who attended this year will be back next year as it once again exceeded expectations. What do belly dancers have to do with Cigars? There both smoking hot.
