Artisan Awards : a competition that showcases traditional made products from producers around the world. An annual event that assists suppliers with brand awareness, and helps bring consumer attention to artisan brands. Independently owned distillers, brewers, winemakers… enter their top brands and compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, not every brand is guaranteed to win a medal.
What makes a product qualify as artisan? If you have to ask more than likely it is not artisan. It’s not about the money as artisan brands make more than mass-produced brands. It’s not about the quantities as artisan brands gain popularity/sales each year. Artisan Awards is more about the skill, ingredients and traditional methods that goes into making the product.
Select judges will perform a blind tasting of all products submitted. Annual judging is highly respected as we hand pick the experts in each field according to skill. As the industry continues to grow year after year the artisan brands need to get the well-deserved attention for going the extra mile to insure the best possible product is made. If you want to be a judge please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know what category (i.e. wine, beer, spirits…).
Artisan Awards recognizes products made by people who truly love what they do- craftsmen, creating rare, handmade, organic, single barrel… products that keep consistency year after year trough traditional methods. Artisan Awards attracts consumers as each year the largest growing segment is artisan brands.

Plan B Wine Cellars, has a 2011 Mourvendre from Happy Canyon in Santa Barbara, California. The 2011 Mourvedre works well on it’s own or with just about anything, it’s my new go to wine. If you ask the winery they will say that the cool and wet growing season led to them reducing the crop load a bit and opening up the vine canopy to encourage light and air circulation around the fruit. The result is a wine that is a bit more fruit driven with plum and spice with the familiar smoky earthiness that they are known for. You could save this bottle but temptations will be there as it drinks well today. If you go to Santa Barbara, California wine trail, Plan B is a winery in an industrial part of of town yet they do everything right so make sure you stop by. Janis, wife and co-owner of Plan B is enjoyable and husband, Marlow knows his craft. You will be taken back with all the wine barrels yet realize after you start tasting that they need to supply the demand. They have an elegant wine bar that is both comfortable and educational. Marlow said that they chose this over retirement, Plan B. Marlow and Janis are taking Plan B and creating amazing wines, a must have is the Plan B 2011 Mourvedre.

Corvus Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Award Winning Wine, no surprise as it’s from Walla Walla, Washington. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a vineyard designate wine from the world renowned Red Mountain AVA. This cooler year wine is an elegant and balanced wine that opens with a big cherry nose and a hint of spice. Allspice, nutmeg, coffee, vanilla, and subtle tar notes appear on the mid-palate. The nice acidity and bright fruit graduates with a long clean finish that has been a cornerstone of the Corvus Cellars 100% Cabernet Sauvignon since they made their first bottle.
Vicio Mezcal described as the purest spirit on the planet. Made by hand and cooked underground with age-old methods passed on by generations of mezcaleros. The founders spent three years of traveling to Mexico, learning about the Oaxacan culture and meeting with mezcaleros to create the perfect mezcal. Vicio Mezcal has a floral nose, tasting at first you will notice how smooth it is soon followed by an adventure of different tastes that present themselves. Compared to a fine joven tequila, yet in my opinion better this well made spirit has a soft side yet tastes like a mezcal should. 40% Alc. 100% Agave, this is truly an Artisanal Mezcal.
Vicio Mezcal illustration on the label is of the axolotl, a Mexican salamander made famous in a short story by Julio Cortazar. “The eyes of the axolotls spoke to me of a different life, of another way of seeing.”
